Montreal Through My Lens

Updated: Jan 26

A photograph may have the ability to capture certain elements of life's various accords. Fleeting are our moments on this Earth. Yet a photograph is interpretive. Images can produce visceral feelings. Perhaps our greatest moments lie in the present, free from the frame.

ACT 1. Montreal

Keep the faith when faith is brittle,

What beauty does fade,

When anger is little?

Through time we make our sacrifice,

Through pain lies faith.

Montreal knows such faith and such pain,

Beauty unchanged,

Through time's riddle,

Through sacrifice we make our own time,

Through faith lies change.

ACT 2. Laugh Now, Cry Later

When the flowers fade and whither,

Does your smile fade too?

When the church bells cease,

So too does your speak?

Do you speak unspoken,

Like your eyes portray?

Do you feel empty?

Did you sacrifice enough,

Was it all a blur?

Did you chase the pyramids,

Was it the way that it were?

Did you drown in the effervescence?

Was it worth it?

When you reach for the stars,

Do they reach back?

Does your grasp permit the climb?

Are you haunted by the spectre of not-knowing?

Climb if you can,

Climb if you must,

Climb as if it were all you had,

as if it were all enough.

Today is all you have,

What have you done?

What have you done?

It is if freedom met decision and toward,

Choice they must walk, and walk they will,

Choice illuminated by the aura,

Gold and emerald and sapphire,

Illusory games we must play,

For even the stars permit the moon to take the stage once in a while,

Lunar light knows who you are,

And it can show you too.

ACT 3. Rhythm

What movement does a statue permit?

If any at all?

Nature prevailed.

What rhythm is useful when describing such movement,

But rhythm of life,

Rhythm of gold, emerald, the sea,

The sea calls for the rhythm to meet the decision amidst the lunar light,

Crashing,

Crashing,

Falling,

Falling,

Drowning,

Drowning,

For stars must fall,

Mirrors must tarnish,

Masks must relinquish,

But faith remains.

Unchanged.
